Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

About the role

The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Registered Nurse to work in its Emergency Department. This position qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides loan‑repayment assistance to eligible employees.

Key responsibilities

Required profile

• Proficiency in basic written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
• Graduate of a professional nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of program completion.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Eligibility for temporary appointment for candidates in a master's‑level bridge program who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
• Foreign‑educated nurses must provide a formal degree‑equivalency validation accepted by the VA.
• Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) candidates may receive a 120‑day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure, extendable up to two years.
• Grandfathering provision applies to current VHA employees performing the duties as of the effective date of the qualification standard.
