Project Manager – Surface Mine

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Project Manager to lead moderate to major capital projects and studies for the Surface Mine at Kennecott Copper. The role supports safe, sustainable, and efficient mining operations within a collaborative, nine‑day fortnight schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Manage projects from initiation through completion, controlling scope, budget, schedule, quality, and risk.
• Plan and coordinate project studies, technical evaluations, and third‑party contractor engagements.
• Ensure project governance, stage‑gate approvals, business case development, and presentations to investment committees.
• Embed safety requirements, conduct hazard identification, and develop mitigation plans.
• Lead cross‑functional collaboration with operational, technical, and support teams.
• Maintain relationships with sponsors, senior leaders, and stakeholders.
• Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with Rio Tinto standards.

Required profile

• Commitment to personal and team safety.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, earth sciences, or a related technical discipline.
• Proven project management experience in mining, heavy industry, construction, or a similar environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage scope, cost, schedule, quality, and risk.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
