About the role
The Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist in the Cancer Institute Pharmacy. The position supports daily dispensing operations and is responsible for sterile compounding, including chemotherapy infusions, while ensuring compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards.
Key responsibilities
- Compound sterile preparations and hazardous medications such as chemotherapy.
- Perform daily and monthly cleaning, decontamination, and disinfection of cleanroom suites.
- Utilize electronic medical records and wholesaler ordering portals for medication verification.
- Document waste and billing information accurately in the EMR.
- Prepare batches of IV medications for future patient use under pharmacist supervision.
- Maintain proper inventory rotation, restock areas, and remove expired drugs.
- Troubleshoot drug delivery and equipment issues as needed.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED.
- Pharmacy technician license from the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy or eligibility for licensure.
- Relevant experience in sterile compounding or hazardous drug handling preferred.
- Computer proficiency and strong mathematical skills.
- Preferred certifications such as PTCB, immunization, or ASHP sterile compounding certificate.

- Barcode scanning for component verification.
- Operation of laminar airflow hoods and biological safety cabinets.
- Preparation of parenteral medications using syringes, needles, tubing, IV bags, and related equipment.
- Pharmaceutical calculations.
- Computer skills for EMR and inventory systems.
