Obstetrics Technician (OB Tech)

About the role

The Obstetrics Technician (OB Tech) supports the labor and delivery unit by preparing rooms, managing supplies, and providing indirect patient care. This position works closely with nursing staff to ensure a safe and efficient environment for mothers and newborns.

Key responsibilities

• Adapt instrumentation and equipment to meet changing patient needs.
• Scrub for cesarean sections in accordance with competency standards.
• Assist nursing staff with patient care, room preparation, and newborn handling.
• Order, restock, and manage patient‑care supplies to maintain adequate inventory.
• Follow organizational policies to ensure quality performance and compliance.
• Maintain unit‑specific competencies, including delivery set‑up, clean‑up, and newborn testing (hearing and metabolic screening).
• Demonstrate service excellence and promote patient satisfaction.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS CPR certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Experience in a healthcare setting (direct or indirect patient care) or as a certified STNA student.
• Strong collaboration, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Ability to lift 50 lb or more and perform a full range of physical tasks.

Required skills

• BLS CPR certification.
• Certified STNA (or enrollment in a healthcare program).
• Proficiency with typing, computer applications, and basic medical technology.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and surgical support procedures.
