Manufacturing Engineer – Body Welding Lines

About the role

The Manufacturing Engineer will own the end‑to‑end development of body welding lines, from concept through full production ramp. You will collaborate closely with Battery Manufacturing engineering and product design teams across all Tesla models to ensure efficient, high‑quality assembly.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with product design to review checkpoints and create manufacturing strategies based on CAD maturity.
• Develop estimates for CapEx, OpEx, line layouts, utilities and related process requirements.
• Draft technical RFQs, manage program schedules, and conduct reviews of engineering integrators for process design, tooling and simulation.
• Own line layout, coordinate facility needs with factory construction, and align line throughput with program targets.
• Calculate cycle times, lead installation and commissioning, and oversee prototype builds before full production.
• Manage the onsite engineering team responsible for line building and commissioning.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Prior manufacturing experience in the automotive industry, preferably with high‑volume assembly lines.
• Hands‑on floor experience and familiarity with layout development.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD tools for tooling design.
