Legal Counsel, Commercial

About the role

We are seeking a commercially‑minded Legal Counsel to join our Commercial Legal team in New York. The role offers high impact exposure to a broad range of commercial legal matters, focusing on drafting and negotiating complex agreements for a fast‑growing fintech platform.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate payment processing, platform, partner, referral, technology licensing, data sharing and vendor agreements.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal support to commercial, product, partnership and operations teams throughout the deal lifecycle.
• Identify, assess and communicate legal risk, delivering clear, pragmatic guidance to business stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks and standard forms to improve scalability.
• Advise on regulatory and compliance considerations related to payments and financial services.
• Collaborate with regulatory, privacy, employment and litigation colleagues on cross‑functional matters.
• Support implementation of legal processes and tooling to increase efficiency.

Required profile

• JD from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York (or eligibility to register as in‑house counsel).
• Minimum three years of experience combining private‑practice work (preferably at a top‑tier or specialist firm) and in‑house counsel experience in technology, fintech or financial services.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements independently.
• Strong commercial instincts with the capacity to balance legal risk against business objectives.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for both legal and non‑legal audiences.
• Proactive, self‑starting attitude and ability to manage competing priorities.
