Health Promotion Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in New Jersey is seeking a motivated Health Promotion Intern to support its Health and Wellness team. This unpaid position offers hands‑on experience helping newly arrived refugees and immigrants navigate the U.S. health‑care system and improve their overall wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in organizing and facilitating client meetings, walk‑in hours, health‑education sessions, and support groups.
• Support outreach and promotion of program events to IRC NJ clients.
• Conduct research to identify gaps in health, mental‑health, and related services for clients.
• Help with Medicaid and New Jersey Family Care follow‑up, health referrals, and development of client‑focused health resources.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field.
• Available to work at least 15 hours per week, with a minimum of 7.5 hours on‑site.
• Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Dari, or Pashto is highly preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work with diverse populations.
