Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Team Lead

About the role

Waabi is a leader in Physical AI, building autonomous transportation solutions. We are seeking a senior engineer to lead our Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) program, shaping strategy, architecture, and execution across hardware and software teams.

Key responsibilities

• Own the HIL program strategy, roadmap, and execution across hardware and software organizations.
• Design and deliver a tiered HIL architecture from component‑level benches to full‑system integration benches across multiple vehicle platforms.
• Verify critical electrical, timing, and fault‑handling requirements, ensuring only mature software reaches vehicles.
• Implement safety‑critical fault injection scenarios on real hardware before track deployment.
• Validate real‑time constraints using hardware timestamping, oscilloscopes, and high‑speed DAQ.
• Integrate HIL testing into CI pipelines and firmware release processes.
• Collaborate with Embedded Systems, Safety, Autonomy, V&V, and Infrastructure teams to define coverage and unblock development.
• Plan bench capacity, hardware resources, and headcount; hire and grow the HIL team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in HIL, embedded systems test, or V&V for safety‑critical systems, with experience building HIL programs from early stages.
• Hands‑on experience architecting custom HIL platforms and using off‑the‑shelf systems.
• Deep knowledge of automotive interfaces and debugging (CAN, automotive Ethernet, related protocols).
• Proficiency in Python and test automation frameworks, with experience integrating hardware tests into CI pipelines.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and strong technical writing skills.
