French Translator / Interpreter (Part‑Time, New York)

About the role

We are seeking a skilled French Translator/Interpreter to support the limited‑English‑proficient community and the professionals who serve them. This part‑time contract role offers flexible scheduling and the chance to work on a high volume of legal and law‑enforcement documents.

Key responsibilities

• Translate written reports, texts, and legal documents from English to French and vice‑versa, preserving nuance and cultural context.
• Provide consecutive (and occasional simultaneous) interpretation for meetings, hearings, and other settings.
• Transcribe audio recordings with high accuracy and produce clear written translations.
• Summarize and gist complex material, isolating key factual and abstract points.
• Utilize reference materials and conduct basic web research to ensure translation quality.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a professional translator, interpreter, transcriber, journalist, writer, or legal professional.
• Familiarity with legal terminology and ability to work with law‑enforcement related content.
• Willingness to undergo a U.S. government background check.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
