Environmental Affairs and Strategic Partnerships Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a consultant to strengthen strategic partnerships and environmental affairs between UNEP and Canadian stakeholders. Working remotely from a home‑based setting, the consultant will support UNEP’s New York Office in mapping Canada’s international environmental priorities and developing joint initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with UNEP to deepen and maintain strategic relationships with relevant Canadian government institutions and other key stakeholders.
• Identify and develop opportunities for enhanced cooperation, including joint programmes, events, and strategic engagements aligned with UNEP priorities.
• Provide strategic analysis of Canada’s international, environmental, climate, biodiversity, pollution and sustainable development priorities, highlighting emerging opportunities and risks for UNEP.
• Facilitate dialogue and coordination between UNEP and Canadian counterparts to strengthen collaboration on major environmental issues and multilateral processes.
• Assist in preparing and implementing high‑level meetings, consultations, outreach activities and official missions involving Canadian stakeholders.
• Plan, coordinate and support visits and missions of UNEP representatives to Canada, including stakeholder mapping, programme development, meeting coordination and briefing material preparation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in environmental policy, international affairs or strategic partnership development.
• Strong knowledge of Canada’s environmental, climate and sustainable development landscape.
• Ability to produce analytical reports and strategic recommendations for senior UN officials.
