Energy Regulatory Associate (Texas)

About the role

Husch Blackwell LLP is seeking an Energy Regulatory Associate to join its Energy & Natural Resources practice in Texas. The position can be based in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or work from the firm’s virtual office, provided the candidate resides in Texas and holds an active Texas bar license.

Key responsibilities

• Handle regulatory and compliance matters before the Texas Public Utility Commission and other state energy commissions.
• Represent clients before ERCOT and other ISO/RTOs or organized power markets.
• Advocate before state utility commissions on power transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and sales.
• Collaborate with attorneys in the Energy & Natural Resources business unit to develop legal strategies.
• Manage multiple projects and provide clear guidance to clients.

Required profile

• Active Texas bar license and residence in Texas.
• Four to six years of experience in energy regulation or related practice (preferred).
• Strong academic credentials and a commitment to community involvement.
• Ability to work under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and handle multiple assignments.
• Proactive, dynamic, and entrepreneurial mindset with a dedication to diversity and inclusion.

Required skills

• Experience with Texas Public Utility Commission proceedings.
• Familiarity with ERCOT, ISO/RTO structures, and organized power markets.
• Advocacy experience before state utility commissions.
• Knowledge of power transaction matters such as mergers, acquisitions, and sales.
