Design Engineering Technologist IV

About the role

The Design Engineering Technologist IV creates and modifies technical drawings of complex components, assemblies and sub‑assemblies for soft‑goods and mechanical/electromechanical products. The role supports NASA, DoD and commercial aerospace customers, developing ground prototypes, test fixtures and certified products for launch, orbit and lunar missions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide detailed design and drawings for soft‑goods, mechanical and electromechanical systems, including interface drawings for thermal and mechanical interfaces.
• Develop unique test fixtures and generate associated CAD drawings.
• Create engineering layouts and assemblies using CREO, SolidWorks and AutoCAD, applying GD&T as needed.
• Review completed drawings for clarity, completeness, compliance with ASME Y14.5, OSS drafting standards and NASA JPR 8500.
• Coordinate with machine shop, soft‑goods personnel and cross‑functional teams to resolve tolerances, clearances and manufacturing options.

Required profile

• Associate Degree in Computer‑Aided Drafting (CAD) or equivalent.
• 7+ years of 3D mechanical design and drafting experience.
• US citizenship (dual citizenship must be disclosed).
• Experience with aerospace materials selection, machine‑shop practices and engineering documentation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CREO (Pro‑Design, Pro‑Assembly, Pro‑Detail, Pro‑Surface).
• SolidWorks and AutoCAD modeling and drafting.
• Application of ASME Y14.5 drawing standards and NASA JPR 8500.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis.
• Knowledge of thermal protection systems (TPS) fabrication methods.
