About the role
Southeastern Louisiana University's College of Science and Technology seeks a collaborative, forward‑thinking leader to head the Department of Chemistry and Physics. The twelve‑month administrative position begins in Spring or Summer 2027 and involves advancing academic excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service.
Key responsibilities
- Oversees strategic short‑ and long‑range planning, direction, and development of the department.
- Coordinates and administers academic standards for undergraduate and graduate instruction, curricula, and scheduling.
- Plans, initiates, and manages organizational, operational, and academic programs.
- Leads faculty development and recruitment; evaluates faculty for tenure, promotion, and compensation.
- Manages and allocates the department’s budget, preparing requests for the Dean.
- Represents the department at formal functions, public relations, and community outreach.
- Serves on university committees and assists the Dean in formulating college policies.
- Maintains operational procedures and standards for faculty and staff.
- Oversees course scheduling and recommends changes to programs and concentrations.
- Advises the Dean and Provost on academic matters.
- Leads assessment of student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Champions growth of research initiatives, interdisciplinary collaboration, and external funding.
Required profile
- Terminal degree (doctorate) in Chemistry or Physics from an accredited university.
- Credentials suitable for an associate or full professor faculty appointment.
- Demonstrated success in academic administration or relevant industry experience.
- Proven ability to cultivate partnerships with regional industry.
- Strong record of research and teaching excellence.
- Experience leading and supporting diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes and professional societies.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
