Dental Assistant (RDA) – Gurney Unit

About the role

The Correctional Managed Care program is seeking a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) to provide direct and indirect patient care within the Gurney Unit of Texas correctional facilities. The role involves supporting the supervising dentist in a secure environment, delivering a range of dental services to inmate populations.

Key responsibilities

• Take and record patient health histories and vital signs.
• Perform dental radiography, laboratory procedures, and prepare impressions.
• Assist in preventive, periodontic, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and oral surgery procedures.
• Maintain clinic cleanliness, sterilize instruments, and manage hazardous material logs.
• Control inventory of instruments, needles, and dental supplies, including requisitions and stock checks.
• Enter patient data, generate reports, and schedule routine and sick‑call appointments using clinic software.
• Provide administrative support such as filing, phone handling, scanning, emailing, and faxing.
• Track prosthetic cases and maintain equipment logs.
• Adhere to internal controls, security protocols, and pre‑employment drug testing requirements.

Required profile

• Current Dental Assistant registration with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to work in a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center and obtain required security clearance.
• Willingness to provide coverage at multiple facilities as needed.
