Data Engineer / Data Architect III

About the role

The Lead Data Engineer / Data Architect will drive the creation of a next‑generation Analytics Core in a classified, on‑premises environment, unifying 30 years of legacy data into an AI‑ready ecosystem. This role balances hands‑on data engineering (≈60%) with strategic data architecture (≈40%) and serves as the technical anchor for internal staff transitioning to the new platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement multidimensional data models for 30‑year legacy archives.
• Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL on on‑premises infrastructure.
• Integrate geospatial data with the on‑premises ESRI portal and ensure spatial alignment.
• Define standards for feature engineering to support future AI/ML applications.
• Enforce data governance, metadata tagging, and access controls in line with DoD Data Strategy.
• Collaborate with software engineers, GIS specialists, and junior data managers to transfer knowledge and maintain quality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent experience.
• 5‑9 years of data management experience, preferably supporting federal government programs.
• Active DoD TS clearance (or ability to obtain) and Security+ certification.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and act as a technical anchor.
