Community Engagement Intern (Winter 2026)

About the role

The Community Engagement Intern will support the Volunteer Specialist in expanding volunteer outreach, social media presence, and community partnerships for the International Rescue Committee in Los Angeles. This hybrid, unpaid position runs for 4‑6 months during the winter of 2026, offering hands‑on experience in nonprofit volunteer management and grant research.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the transition to Golden, the IRC volunteer engagement platform, including onboarding opportunities and troubleshooting technical issues.
• Draft and upload volunteer and intern role descriptions into Golden.
• Research prospective donors, foundations, and government funding opportunities; analyze grant alignment.
• Support preparation of grant proposals by gathering information, conducting research, and drafting sections under supervision.
• Contribute to volunteer engagement through social media content, graphic design, event coordination, and donation drives.
• Help build cross‑program visibility and relationships with community partners.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a degree program and able to commit at least 15 hours per week during standard business hours.
• Strong interest in humanitarian work and community engagement.
• Solutions‑driven, passionate about making a positive impact.

Required skills

• Experience with Golden (volunteer management system).
• Familiarity with Salesforce.
• Proficiency in Canva for graphic design.
• Use of social media platforms for outreach.
