Assistant Professor of Social Work (Two Open Positions)

About the role

The School of Social Work at the University of Arkansas invites applications for two tenure‑track Assistant Professor positions starting August 2027. These are nine‑month, full‑time faculty appointments focused on teaching, research, and service in an in‑person environment.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching and professional performance (approximately 40% of effort), including designing and delivering undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, and assessing learning outcomes.
• Research and scholarly activities (approximately 40% of effort), developing a sustainable research agenda, publishing in peer‑reviewed venues, and seeking external funding.
• Academic service (approximately 20% of effort), serving on departmental, college and university committees, and contributing to professional organizations.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Social Work or a closely related field (ABD acceptable if doctorate completed before start date) and eligibility for Arkansas social work licensure.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in university‑level teaching and for building a strong, fundable research program.
• Preferred: at least two years of post‑MSW practice, record of community‑engaged research, and evidence of successful publications or external grants.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of social work theory, ethics, history, and macro/micro practice frameworks.
• Proficiency with modern educational technologies, such as learning management systems and synchronous video‑conferencing tools.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
