Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology

About the role

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology starting August 2027. The position focuses on cultural anthropology of the Middle East and contributes to both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including History of Anthropological Thought and two Middle‑East focused courses each academic year.
• Develop and maintain an active research program on cultural anthropology of the Middle East, involving students.
• Provide academic service through committee work, student advising, and interdisciplinary collaboration with centers such as the King Fahd Center.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in anthropology completed by May 31 2027.
• Demonstrated expertise in cultural anthropology of the Middle East, with potential research interests in medical anthropology, new media, or political economy.
• Record of scholarly publications and ability to secure external funding.
• Experience teaching as instructor‑of‑record at the college level is preferred.
