Animal Caretaker - Large Animal Hospital

About the role

Join the Texas A&M Large Animal Hospital team as an Animal Caretaker. You will support daily operations by providing routine care, handling and restraining large animals, and maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Check inventory of feed, cleaning supplies, buckets, and bowls.
• Clean stalls, animal holding areas, barns, feed rooms, and shavings rooms.
• Disinfect treatment rooms, windows, ceilings, and cabinets.
• Observe and report patient concerns; assist in feeding, watering, and transporting animals.
• Handle and restrain horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and other large animals as needed.
• Assist veterinary technicians and operate forklift and university vehicles.
• Empty manure cans, scrub and disinfect trash receptacles daily.
• Turn out TAMU-owned animals to paddocks and communicate with hospital services.

Required profile

• High School diploma/GED or equivalent.
• At least 1 year experience handling and caring for large animals.
• Knowledge of animal feeds, disinfectants, PPE protocols, and bio‑security practices.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to multitask.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $15.85.
• Part‑time (Mon‑Fri 3 pm‑7 pm) or full‑time (Thu‑Mon or Fri‑Tue 7 am‑3:30 pm) schedules.
