AmeriCorps Health Futures Member – Community Health Support

About the role

The Healthy Futures AmeriCorps member works with the Family Support team to remove barriers to health, wellness, and self‑sufficiency for refugees and immigrants. This role focuses on both physical and mental health issues, providing coordination and advocacy for newly arrived families with special medical needs.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the IRC Medical Case Manager to coordinate care and advocate for families with special medical needs.
• Educate new families on how to access community health‑care services.
• Assist in scheduling medical appointments as appropriate.
• Help clients navigate health‑care and social‑service systems, providing guidance and teaching.

Required profile

• Strong written and spoken English communication; bilingual ability in a predominant local language is desired.
• Experience working in a multicultural environment.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident authorized to work in the United States.
• At least 18 years old and able to commit to one full term of service.
• High school diploma, GED, or working toward completion during the term.
• Successful completion of a National Service criminal‑history check.
