Wine and Spirits Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Wine and Spirits Clerk in Decorah. The clerk provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, educates customers about products and keeps the department stocked and well displayed. The position reports to the Wine & Spirits Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Smile and greet customers, learn their names and help them find products, including securing items out of reach and loading or unloading heavy items
• Answer the telephone promptly and pass along customer suggestions and requests
• Educate customers about products and maintain displays in the department and throughout the store
• Rotate, face and replenish merchandise, check in product, put it away and review invoices
• Follow local, state and company policies on the sale of tobacco and liquor
• Remove trash, follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat
• Follow department and company guidelines on personal hygiene and dress, and report to work on time
• Secondary duties include ordering product at the supervisor's request, assisting with inventory, building displays and helping in other store areas

Required profile

• No formal education requirement
• Over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions, do simple addition and subtraction, count and record figures
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, plus climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and standing
• Visual acuity from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision and field of vision

The work is fast-paced with significant pressure, involves occasional exposure to dirt, cleaning solvents and equipment movement hazards, and temperature extremes. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
