Water Quality Technician

About the role

The Water Quality Technician will be provided with a company truck and tools, using the vehicle for travel between home and designated worksites only. The position is field‑based, reporting onsite to the Malone, Ogdensburg or Watertown area, and includes participation in an on‑call rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist certified operators with daily operations, water and wastewater testing, data entry, meter readings, service installations/disconnections, and pump station maintenance.
• Use hand tools and mechanical devices to maintain Authority‑owned facilities and locate underground infrastructure.
• Operate SCADA, GIS, Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS), and HACH WIMs systems to support operational activities.
• Respond to on‑call duties, handling emergencies and documenting resolutions.

Required profile

• Three years of experience in construction, maintenance, or operations.
• High school diploma required; associate degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Ability to work independently, in all weather conditions, and meet confined‑space certification requirements.
• Valid NYS Class D driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively within the service area.
