Wastewater Treatment Operator (DAF Plant)

About the role

Leidos is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Operator to run, repair and maintain a small-scale industrial dissolved air flotation (DAF) wastewater treatment plant. The operator keeps the DAF system running so that industrial water quality meets process needs and effluent complies with the facility's permit requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform operations and maintenance: operational checks, sampling and monitoring of pH, turbidity, temperature and surfactants, pump calibration, bench-top testing, equipment troubleshooting and minor mechanical maintenance per equipment manuals.
• Schedule and oversee subcontractors doing electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Document compliance with sampling procedures, keep daily logs and system records, and help interpret data.
• Support groundwater sampling, water-level data collection and stormwater sampling during rain events.
• Follow the site-specific Health & Safety Plan and communicate with the site facility engineer and the Leidos Project Engineer in Oakland, CA.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience treating industrial wastewater (operation, monitoring, sampling, O&M).
• Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with a valid 8-hour refresher.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to work nights, weekends and extended hours occasionally.
• Ability to wear PPE, work in confined spaces, lift up to 70 pounds, climb ladders and platforms, and read gauges and instrumentation.

Required skills

• Preferred: knowledge of DAF systems and a Certified Level II wastewater treatment operator.
• Preferred: Washington State Wastewater Treatment Operator certification or in progress.
• Preferred: forklift certification or ability to obtain it.
• Independent scheduling of field duties, good documentation and communication skills.
