VITA Site Specialist

About the role

The VITA Site Specialist supports the coordination and daily administration of the International Rescue Committee’s National Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Virginia. Working under the supervision of the IRC Financial Coach, the role ensures tax‑season services are delivered safely, culturally and linguistically appropriate for a diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day‑to‑day operations of the VITA site during the tax season (January‑April 2026), including scheduling client appointments.
• Provide technical support and supervision to both virtual and in‑person volunteer tax preparers.
• Deliver customer service to clients, conduct quality reviews, and electronically file tax returns.
• Lead the launch of the remote VITA program by recruiting, vetting, and training volunteer tax preparers.
• Manage intake plans, document collection, outreach, and ensure compliance with IRS, VITA, and IRC policies.
• Assist with data collection, reporting, and complete required IRS training.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Previous experience as a VITA volunteer or personal income‑tax preparation is strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a non‑profit environment is a plus.
• Excellent customer‑service abilities and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of organization, attention to detail, and computer literacy.

Required skills

• Familiarity with TaxSlayer software (preferred).
