Virtual Medical Assistant – Front Desk, Scheduling & Insurance

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Virtual Medical Assistant to provide front‑desk, scheduling, and insurance support for a growing U.S. gastroenterology practice. The role is remote and combines patient‑facing communication with clinical administrative tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Handle inbound and outbound patient calls, respond to inquiries, and manage appointment requests.
• Schedule, reschedule, and coordinate new patient visits, follow‑ups, procedures, and surgeries using eClinicalWorks.
• Monitor patient communications via phone, email, and text, including reminders and preparation instructions.
• Support physicians and nurse practitioners with chart preparation, intake information, and documentation.
• Process prescription and medication refill requests according to clinic protocols.
• Verify insurance coverage, document benefits, and manage prior authorization requests.
• Track laboratory and diagnostic results and route information to providers as directed.
• Document workflow processes and help develop standard operating procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of hands‑on experience supporting a U.S. medical practice.
• Experience in both front‑desk reception and medical‑assistant administrative duties.
• Strong communication skills with patients and providers.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with eClinicalWorks (eCW) scheduling and documentation.
