Utility Mechanic - Winter 2027 (Antarctica)

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Utility Mechanic for a seasonal contract in Winter 2027, supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The role covers maintenance and repair of construction and maintenance projects, with tasking driven by ASC schedule requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on buildings, systems, equipment and infrastructure
• Overhaul facilities equipment such as heating, ventilation, cooling, refrigeration, pumps, kitchen/galley equipment and shop tools, and respond to failures in support components
• Assist the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and PM Foreman with inventory re-supply and act as first responder to emergency calls, on and off duty
• Perform plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs, submit reports and document hours, materials and processes accurately
• Follow job plans, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, vendor manuals and specifications, and follow or revise SOPs
• Work outdoors in extreme cold and windy conditions, and may deploy to remote research facilities (McMurdo only)
• Learn computer-based labour, material and maintenance tracking applications, and comply with ASC ESH, waste management and quality assurance requirements

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Four years of facilities maintenance experience, including preventive and corrective work on industrial and/or commercial facilities, with proven independent work
• Intermediate computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to read design drawings, specifications and diagrams
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and US citizenship (required for facility credentials)
• Valid US driver's license and ability to lift and work in extreme cold

Required skills

• Heating and ventilation maintenance, and troubleshooting with test devices
• LOTO procedures, confined space safety, NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety knowledge
• PPE use, risk assessment and work plans, job hazard and safety analyses
• Preferred: Building Automation Systems, fuel piping, overhead garage doors, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fuel oil burners, Maximo or similar CMMS
