About the role
The Turfgrass Research Intern will join the Soil & Crop Sciences team at Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service in Dallas, Texas. This student‑worker position supports ongoing research on turfgrass cultivars, management practices, soil amendments, irrigation, herbicide trials, and ecosystem services of urban lawns. The role offers hands‑on field, greenhouse, and laboratory experience in a leading agricultural research environment.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and manage turfgrass research plots, including mowing and equipment operation.
- Collect, record, and evaluate data from field trials.
- Assist with greenhouse and laboratory tasks as needed.
- Support irrigation and water‑management studies.
- Help with herbicide evaluation and soil amendment experiments.
Required profile
- Currently pursuing or completed a B.S. in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, turfgrass science, or a related field.
- Available to work up to 20 hours per week.
- Basic knowledge of turfgrass management practices.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated work ethic and willingness to learn.
Required skills
- Turfgrass equipment operation (e.g., reel mowers, aerifiers, verticutters, sod harvesters).
- Irrigation system installation or maintenance.
