Truck Driver - Satellite Location Dubuque

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Truck Driver for its satellite location in Dubuque within the Transportation department. The driver shuttles backhauls to the drop lot, delivers product to stores as requested, inspects and arranges repairs and preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers, completes paperwork and reports to the VP of Transportation and the Director of Transportation, Cherokee.

Key responsibilities

• Drive safely, taking weather conditions into account and obeying all laws and regulations.
• Deliver product to stores, including backing across crowded parking lots, unloading and returning with backhauls as assigned.
• Complete the log book, trip mileage chart, fuel slips and paperwork for backhauls and damaged merchandise.
• Inspect tractors and trailers, communicate repairs and preventative maintenance needs to the Logistics Department, and maintain equipment such as washing the tractor-trailer and refueling the truck.
• Provide full customer service and communicate with warehouse and store personnel.
• Report to work when scheduled and work the expected number of hours.
• Attend company meetings as needed, represent the company positively, adhere to company policies and handle confidential information about mail carried to stores.

Required profile

• High school or equivalent education.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License.
• One to three years of similar or related work experience.
• Trailer jockeying experience preferred.
• Ability to solve practical problems, interpret instructions and follow verbal, written or map-based directions.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently, and to perform stooping, kneeling, climbing, balancing and repetitive motions.
• Visual acuity within 20 inches to 20 feet, with or without correction, and depth perception and color vision.

Working conditions include a mix of warehouse, vehicle and store environments, with exposure to diesel smoke, dirt, grease, snow, ice, noise, vibrations, dampness, chemicals and temperature extremes, and significant pressure to meet deadlines. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
