Large Passenger Vehicle Operator - Scott Base, Antarctica

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Large Passenger Vehicle Operator for its US Antarctic Program (USAP) at Scott Base. The role provides shuttle and taxi transport for passengers, flight crew and personnel, and acts as a dispatcher for transportation needs. Deployment to Antarctica for extended periods is required.

Key responsibilities

• Adhere to and support the SafeUp program and USAP safety policies, keeping safety as the highest priority
• Drive shuttle vehicles (11-14 passenger vans, Foremost Delta II, 56-passenger Terra Bus, 59-passenger tractor-trailer) on varying road surfaces in bad weather
• Transport passengers and flight crew to and from the airfield ramp, following airfield safety rules
• Perform and document mechanical and fluid checks before and during operation, and complete shuttle and taxi logs
• Communicate via two-way radio using prescribed procedures and radio etiquette
• Provide shuttle service, taxi service and shift-change transport, and act as dispatcher for flight schedules and passenger needs
• Perform bellhop service for incoming and outgoing flights, and give light vehicle and large passenger vehicle training to other departments
• Take part in safety briefings, meetings, hazard analyses, work center inspections and other safety reports
• Interact professionally with NSF, military and other agency officials, and take part in station community programs

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least one year of vehicle/equipment operating experience, including six months with large capacity passenger vehicles and/or over-the-road tractor-trailers
• Valid US driver's license; US citizenship required for facility credentials at this location
• Medical, dental, drug screening and background checks completed as required by NSF and employer
• Ability to lift and move items up to safety limits, climb in and out of equipment, crawl and work outdoors in extreme cold
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
