Tribal Roads Crew Member

About the role

Under direct supervision, the Tribal Roads Crew Member supports the Washoe Tribe's Transportation Improvement Program by assisting with road repair, maintenance, and construction projects on Tribal lands.

Key responsibilities

• Perform physical activities required for road repair, maintenance, and construction, including operating equipment such as compactors, rollers, augers, saws, and water pumps.
• Construct fencing, anti‑erosion measures, and operate onsite machinery like backhoes, dump trucks, and graders.
• Transport, tow vehicles and trailers, and ensure safety protocols are followed at all times.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED with at least one year of experience working with construction equipment or physical labor.
• Valid Nevada or California driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 30 days) and insurability under the Tribe’s driving policy.
• 10‑ or 30‑hour OSHA certification and ability to pass pre‑employment drug/alcohol screening and background check.
• Preference given to qualified Native American Indians.

Required skills

• Operation of construction equipment (backhoe, dump truck, grader, compactors, rollers, augers, concrete/asphalt saws).
• Use of hand tools such as sledgehammer, shovel, and pick.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lb and work in harsh weather and terrain conditions.
