Transportation Manager – Safety & Operations Lead

About the role

The Transportation Manager will lead US Foods’ transportation department, fostering a culture centered on safety, service excellence, and cost efficiency. Reporting to senior transportation leadership, the role ensures daily outbound shipments are accurate, timely, and compliant with regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Promote a safety‑first mindset, ensuring drivers, associates, customers and the public remain injury‑free.
• Coach, train and develop drivers and transportation staff on policies, procedures, safety and legal responsibilities.
• Supervise daily operations of drivers and clerical associates, monitoring productivity and accuracy.
• Schedule shifts using planning tools such as Microsoft Excel and maintain driver qualification files.
• Investigate accidents, track causes and implement preventative actions.
• Analyze delivery issues, devise cost‑effective solutions and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
• Drive associate engagement, retention and uphold US Foods’ core values.
• Participate in hiring, performance reviews and disciplinary actions for transportation personnel.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transportation or logistics operations management.
• Strong leadership and coaching abilities with a focus on safety culture.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to act on operational challenges.
• Effective communication with internal teams, drivers and external partners.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel for scheduling and data analysis.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and driver qualification requirements.
