Transportation Design Internship (Roadway Design)

About the role

Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) offers a 3-month transportation design internship at its Des Moines, Iowa office, focused on roadway design. Interns join project teams and work on real projects under the guidance of experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience in transportation engineering design.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design, analysis and planning of engineering projects
• Take part in fieldwork, data collection and analysis
• Work with team members to develop solutions for clients and communities
• Help prepare reports, presentations and project documentation

Required profile

• Undergraduate (sophomore or higher) or graduate student in Transportation Engineering or a related field
• Availability for a 3-month internship, approximately June through August
• Preferred: coursework in transportation engineering and prior experience

Required skills

• Proficiency with engineering software, including AutoCAD Civil3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads Designer
• Solid mathematics skills
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
