Temporary School Social Worker

About the role

The Buffalo Board of Education is hiring a temporary School Social Worker to provide clinical and therapeutic support to students with disabilities and their families. The role involves collaborating with teachers, psychologists, counselors, and other staff to create a supportive environment that promotes student growth and self‑esteem.

Key responsibilities

• Establish a positive environment that enhances individual growth and self‑image.
• Process and facilitate services for students with disabilities and their families.
• Develop social skills and educational opportunities for students.
• Participate as a key member of an interdisciplinary team, including instructional personnel, psychologists, and counselors.
• Schedule and conduct home visitation conferences and obtain consents for CSE referrals.
• Gather comprehensive social histories, administer adaptive behavior and parental checklist measures, and secure outside data for CSE meetings.
• Perform classroom observations and provide individual or group counseling as needed.
• Offer strategies and support to parents, consult with teachers, and implement Positive Behavior Support (PBS).
• Perform any other duties assigned by administrators or supervisors.

Required profile

• New York State certification in Social Work (proof required).
• Preference for Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) certification.
• Minimum two years of social work experience, with at least one year in alternative education or community/school collaboration.
• Experience providing clinical support and using a range of therapeutic modalities.
