Tax Manager, Property Tax

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Tax Manager, Property Tax, working virtually from Georgia. The manager manages the personal property tax compliance process so that the general ledger correctly reflects tax balances for Property Tax accounts, works directly with Property Tax staff to assign and complete compliance tasks, and covers property tax planning, research, compliance, accounting and audit defense.

Key responsibilities

• Manage property tax planning, research, compliance, accounting and audit defense, meeting department goals (about 80% of the role)
• Serve as principal contact on projects with governmental officials, outside counsel and business partners
• Lead special studies on the tax implications of company operations
• Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns and accurate accounting reserves, including FAS 109 and FIN 48 where applicable
• Act as liaison between the SSC and subsidiary businesses in the US and internationally
• Participate in cross-functional teams as a subject-matter expert (about 10%)
• Coach and mentor associates in the department (about 10%)
• Supervise direct reports, recommend selections, terminations, appraisals and development, and coordinate work groups; typically less than 10% overnight travel

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Preferred: CPA, CMI or JD; MACc, MBA or MTAX preferred
• Preferred: 5-8 years of experience
• Minimum education: bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field

• Technical tax skills appropriate to years of experience
• Property tax compliance, audit, tax research and accounting experience
• Experience with property tax software such as OneSource
• Leadership, people management and communication with technical and non-technical audiences
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
