Senior Payroll Tax Analyst

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Senior Payroll Tax Analyst on a virtual basis. The position administers federal, state, local, employee and employer payroll taxes, including research, analysis, data set-up, reconciliations and preparation of tax documents and returns in a timely and accurate manner. It reports to the Payroll Manager and has no direct supervision of others.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and reconcile tax returns and other payroll tax documents, and balance weekly, quarterly and annual interface files reporting employee and employer wages and taxes to federal, state and local jurisdictions.
• Balance W-2s and prepare W-2Cs as needed.
• Review audit reports, conduct analysis and handle inquiries on taxable wages and taxes, resolving problems end-to-end, including workflow analysis and process changes to establish proper controls and comply with SOX requirements.
• Support tax and accounting projects by fact-finding so that payroll tax liabilities, expenses and payments are correctly posted to general ledger accounts and new earnings codes are taxed and reported properly.
• Work with the tax filing vendor to ensure taxes are filed and remitted on time, inquiries and audits are resolved, changing requirements are implemented, and invoices are balanced, paid or disputed.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Preferred: a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field related to the job; preferred experience of 5 years.
• Preferred: knowledge of ADP Smart Compliance.
• Typical working conditions: mostly sitting indoors, occasional lifting of light items, and occasional overnight travel under 10% of the time.

Required skills

• Payroll tax filing and reconciliation experience.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, using statistics and complex formulas.
• Computer skills such as Excel, Access, Word and mainframe applications.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
