Tax Manager

About the role

Withum’s Tax Services Group is seeking a Tax Manager to join its San Diego or San Francisco office. You will lead tax engagements, mentor staff, and develop strong client relationships while delivering high‑quality tax compliance and planning services.

Key responsibilities

• Review individual, trust, partnership, and corporate tax returns prepared by staff for accuracy.
• Research and draft memoranda on complex tax matters.
• Identify and implement tax planning opportunities for diverse clients.
• Handle and resolve tax controversies.
• Oversee comprehensive tax research projects across various industries.
• Manage multiple engagements simultaneously, coordinating with cross‑functional teams to meet deadlines.
• Conduct performance discussions with team members and provide guidance.
• Participate in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• CPA license, JD, or Master of Science in Taxation.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the tax department of a public accounting firm, with proven leadership of multiple engagements and staff supervision.
• Strong analytical and technical tax expertise.
• Exceptional client service and communication abilities.
