Tax Manager

About the role

Mapbox is seeking a Tax Manager to lead the planning and execution of its global tax strategy. This individual contributor role focuses on technical and functional ownership of income, indirect, and property tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preparation and filing of income, sales & use, gross receipts, franchise, VAT, business, and property tax returns.
• Coordinate with external advisors and own the annual tax provision process.
• Maintain the tax calendar to ensure timely compliance with all filing obligations.
• Respond to government tax audits, notices, and requests.
• Assist with quarterly transfer pricing calculations, journal entries, and tax planning analyses.
• Prepare apportionment details for state income tax and perform month‑end tax account reconciliations.
• Draft tax footnotes and disclosures for financial statements.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation, assess implications, and update nexus analysis.
• Support corporate entity compliance, registrations, and new entity formation.
• Provide tax guidance to sales and legal teams during deal negotiations.
• Maintain third‑party indirect tax software such as Avalara and Stripe.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting (required); Master’s in taxation (preferred).
• CPA designation or in the process of obtaining it (preferred).
• 6–10 years of tax experience, preferably in a software or technology environment.
• Strong analytical, detail‑oriented, and independent problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
• Experience with NetSuite.
• Familiarity with Avalara tax automation.
• Knowledge of Stripe integration for sales tax.
