About the role
The Budget Analyst is responsible for developing, managing, and analyzing budgets for current and future agency activities. This role supports financial decision‑making by preparing detailed budget reports and presenting findings to management and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Formulate budgets for current and future activities based on proposed and actual expenditures and analyze budgetary trends, characteristics, and deficiencies.
- Enter and retrieve financial data from automated systems, create spreadsheets, tables, charts, graphs, or diagrams, and present information to justify financial decisions.
- Manage multiple fund types with different expiration dates and allocate expenses through various funding mechanisms such as reimbursable agreements, contracts, financial assistance agreements, and intra/inter‑agency agreements.
- Apply knowledge of financial principles, policies, and procedures to oversee budgetary commitments and appropriated funds, ensuring estimates align with program plans.
- Supervise subordinate staff, manage workload, develop performance standards, and provide guidance and feedback.
Required profile
- U.S. citizen or national; must pass background investigation, E‑Verify, and selective service registration (for males born after 12‑31‑59).
- One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑09 level, or a Ph.D. (or equivalent) with relevant coursework; transcripts required.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers, providing sound financial advice and recommendations.
- Willingness to serve a one‑year probationary period and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Required skills
- Excel for creating and analyzing spreadsheets, tables, charts, and graphs.
