Systems Engineer – Submarine Network Integration

About the role

Mikel is seeking full‑time Systems Engineers to support submarine network systems for the U.S. Navy at the NUWC Division Newport lab. The role involves configuring, installing, and maintaining virtualized Windows domains and Cisco‑based network infrastructure aboard submarines.

Key responsibilities

• Tailor and configure software packages for submarine use, develop load plans and procedures, and build boat‑specific installation packages.
• Perform on‑site installations, run hardware/software checks, migrate legacy data, and provide on‑the‑job training to ship personnel.
• Collaborate with Ship’s Force personnel to train and support network administration, and conduct verification testing of new systems.
• Travel up to 30% of the time to U.S. Navy submarine bases for installations and support.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in systems engineering or a related field.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance at hire and U.S. citizenship.
• Strong troubleshooting, oral and written communication skills, and ability to follow detailed procedures.

Required skills

• Administration of Microsoft domains (Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint).
• Experience with Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Windows 10/11 clients.
• Virtualization platforms such as Microsoft Hyper‑V and VMware ESX.
• Configuration and management of Cisco (Alcatel) switches and firewalls.
• Knowledge of cyber security principles and information assurance.
