Systems Administrator III

About the role

We are seeking a Systems Administrator (Systems) III to lead the support and maintenance of our multi‑platform environment. The role combines hands‑on technical work with strategic planning for server infrastructure, backup, security and change management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead installation, configuration, monitoring and support of VMware, storage and appliance‑based systems.
• Provide expert‑level end‑user support during core hours and rotational on‑call coverage.
• Drive change‑management processes, collaborating with the Change Advisory Board.
• Troubleshoot complex hardware issues and coordinate repairs with vendors.
• Assess new server hardware/software requirements, propose upgrades and test deployment strategies.
• Harden servers to meet security baselines, maintain patch levels and support cyber‑security incident response.
• Maintain accurate inventory of servers, equipment and software.
• Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for routine activities.
• Oversee backup and restore operations, conduct annual restore tests and resolve backup failures, including database restores.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
• Extensive experience in a multi‑platform computer center environment.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to quickly acquire new technical knowledge.
