System Administrator (Public Trust Eligible)

About the role

Veterans Engineering, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aretum serving government customers, is looking for a System Administrator to support critical infrastructure for its federal-sector clients. The role covers the management, maintenance and optimization of servers and networks, with proactive monitoring, troubleshooting and system upgrades. It welcomes military veterans and diverse candidates, and offers a salary of $45,000-$56,000.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, test and troubleshoot IT equipment, including setting up computers and moving equipment up to 50 pounds across a large VA site campus
• Diagnose and resolve customer hardware and software issues on site using ServiceNow, and track and document all changes and issues in ServiceNow
• Provision new endpoints (desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices), image them and handle add/move/change requests
• Install OS patches, OS upgrades and COTS software, and provide user account support where elevated privileges are needed
• Use log data and tools such as Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) to troubleshoot performance issues and deploy software packages
• Monitor assigned systems, recommend expansions or enhancements, and perform routine audits of licenses and compliance
• Manage assets, including inventory, audits, turn-ins and media sanitization
• Handle printer deployment, repairs, equipment refreshes and asset reporting

Required profile

• HS diploma or GED and 8+ years of system administration experience, or a BS in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or another engineering or technical discipline
• Experience with routine system administration tasks, logging data in system admin logs, and maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of systems and networks, including high-volume or high-availability ones
• Knowledge of debugging protocols and the ability to troubleshoot customer-reported issues and implement corrective actions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal guidance
• US work authorization and eligibility for a Public Trust or Suitability Determination clearance; only US citizens are eligible due to federal contract requirements
