Survey & Layout Manager

About the role

The Survey & Layout Manager leads J. Benton Construction’s enterprise‑wide surveying and layout programme across all active projects in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures standards, quality control and integration of layout strategy into project planning and execution while supporting safe, accurate and efficient delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the company’s survey and layout programme, including staffing, training, performance management and professional development.
• Establish, maintain and enforce company‑wide layout standards, procedures and quality‑control protocols.
• Review project drawings, specifications, schedules and scope to develop project‑specific survey and layout plans.
• Plan and allocate layout resources across projects and islands to support schedules, scope and complexity.
• Serve as the technical authority for construction layout and surveying, providing guidance and oversight to field teams.
• Review and verify control networks, benchmarks and layout prior to major construction activities.
• Oversee layout for complex scopes including foundations, structures, MEP, architectural control and civil work.
• Coordinate with project management, field supervision, designers, external surveyors and trade partners to resolve dimensional conflicts.
• Support constructability reviews, RFIs and sequencing strategies related to layout and site logistics.
• Manage layout and survey equipment, including calibration, maintenance and upgrades.
• Ensure all survey and layout operations comply with company safety standards and OSHA requirements.
