About the role
The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Surgical Technician for its Ambulatory Surgery Center in Palm Beach Gardens. The technician will support surgical teams by preparing and maintaining a sterile environment and handling instruments throughout procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare the surgical suite and ensure environmental safety for patients and staff.
- Maintain a sterile field using aseptic technique and label medications and solutions.
- Handle, decontaminate, and return instruments to the workroom, and restock supplies.
- Assist with inventory, ordering, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
- Participate in stocking sub‑sterile rooms and preparing supplies for the next day.
- Uphold confidentiality of medical, financial, and employee information.
- Follow university policies and safeguard assets.
Required profile
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) preferred.
- Minimum five years of relevant surgical technician experience.
Required skills
- Instrument sterilization and decontamination.
- Aseptic technique and sterile field management.
- Knowledge of surgical equipment and supplies handling.
