Surgery Scheduler 2 – Full-Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Department of Surgery is seeking a full-time Surgery Scheduler 2 to coordinate surgical and diagnostic procedures. The role serves as the primary liaison among patients, physicians, and clinical staff, ensuring timely and accurate scheduling.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain pre-authorizations from insurance companies for surgical procedures.
• Produce, distribute, and maintain surgical and procedural schedules for physicians and departments.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and providers to schedule surgeries, pre-op visits, and testing.
• Coordinate special cases with hospitals, vendors, and facilities.
• Identify and suggest improvements to streamline the scheduling process.
• Maintain electronic scheduling tools and resolve system issues promptly.
• Ensure complete documentation to support accurate billing.
• Manage department shared calendars and physician calendars, upholding data integrity.
• Handle inbound calls using the NICE in Contact telephone system following departmental etiquette.
• Review prior-day cases for correct coding, billing, and operative note completion.

Required profile

• Experience in medical or surgical scheduling, preferably in a hospital or academic setting.
• Strong knowledge of insurance authorization processes.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
• Attention to detail and adherence to university policies.
