Supplier Development Engineer – Electronics

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer focused on electronics components and PCBA to improve supplier performance, quality, and on‑time delivery for aerospace projects.

Key responsibilities

• Process improvement: audit supplier processes and identify cost, lead‑time and quality opportunities.
• Resolve manufacturing defects in SMT assembly, including solder paste application, component placement, reflow and AOI.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions using PFMEA.
• Ensure compliance with IPC‑A‑610 and J‑STD‑001 standards.
• Perform on‑site quality audits and address supplier performance challenges.
• Assess and develop supplier capabilities aligned with engineering and operational priorities.
• Provide technical guidance on part specifications, manufacturing processes and quality measures.
• Monitor supplier metrics (delivery, quality, cost) and drive continuous improvement.
• Identify and mitigate supply‑chain risks to maintain uninterrupted production.
• Support new product introduction by ensuring supplier readiness.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and printed circuit board assembly (PCBA).
• Knowledge of industry standards such as IPC‑A‑610 and J‑STD‑001.
• Ability to read and analyze PCBA drawings and critical features.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~50% of time).
• Preferred: M.S. in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, strong problem‑solving and root‑cause investigation skills, leadership on cross‑functional projects.
