Supervisor, Tool & Die Design

About the role

OTTO Engineering is seeking a Supervisor of Tool & Die Design to lead the design process in a fast‑paced job‑shop environment. The role works closely with Sales, Engineering and the Tool Room to deliver progressive metal‑stamping tooling for new and existing customers.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers, Design Manager and Tool Room Manager to define concepts for progressive dies, compound dies, stage tooling, jigs and fixtures.
• Design and develop progressive stamping tools, trim dies, fixtures and gauges, producing strip layouts, BOMs and detailed drawings.
• Create wire EDM blocks, jigs and other components to improve tool‑room efficiency.
• Generate complete tool‑assembly drawings using 3D and 2D platforms and order purchased components as needed.
• Implement engineering changes, process ECNs through PLM/ERP systems, and support the tool room during builds.
• Report project status, timelines and risks to management and manage in‑house and outsourced designers.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of full‑time tool design experience, preferably with a toolmaker background.
• Proven ability to design complete tool assemblies using solid‑modeling software.
• Strong understanding of progressive metal‑stamping processes and tooling.
• Excellent time‑management, organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites.
