Supervisor, Medical Technologist (UHealth Labs Transition)

About the role

The University of Miami’s UHealth Laboratories Department is seeking a Supervisor for Medical Technologists to lead clinical laboratory operations during a transition phase. This role provides leadership, ensures quality assurance, and oversees instrument maintenance while supporting diagnostic testing for patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, orient, train, evaluate and monitor staff performing microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests.
• Verify specimen identification against physician orders and prepare specimens safely for testing.
• Oversee research activities, compile patient data and coordinate with pathologists for evaluation.
• Monitor staff productivity, attendance and scheduling accuracy.
• Initiate performance‑management processes to address ongoing performance issues.
• Identify test inconsistencies, take corrective action and guide subordinates in problem resolution.
• Run and document quality‑control tests, ensuring results fall within acceptable ranges.
• Provide guidance to technologists and healthcare providers on proper specimen collection methods.
• Establish and assess internal controls, ensuring compliance with university policies and training staff on these controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum three years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license.
• Demonstrated ability in performance management, training, and team leadership.
