Supervisor, Medical Technologist – UHealth Labs

About the role

The University of Miami’s UHealth Laboratories Department is seeking a Supervisor for Medical Technologists. This leader will oversee clinical laboratory operations, ensure quality assurance, and maintain instrument performance while supporting diagnostic testing for patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, orient, train, evaluate, and monitor staff performing microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological tests.
• Verify specimen identification against physician orders and prepare specimens safely.
• Oversee research activities, compile patient data, and coordinate with pathologists for sign‑out.
• Monitor staff productivity, attendance, and scheduling accuracy.
• Initiate performance‑management actions to address ongoing issues.
• Identify test inconsistencies, take corrective action, and guide subordinates in problem resolution.
• Conduct quality‑control tests, record data, and assess results against acceptable ranges.
• Advise technologists and healthcare providers on proper specimen collection methods.
• Establish and assess internal controls, ensuring compliance with university policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license.
• Ability to manage performance, provide training, and lead a cohesive team.
