About the role

The University of Miami seeks an experienced Medical Technologist to lead a team performing microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological testing on patient specimens. This supervisory position ensures high‑quality laboratory results that support diagnosis and treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, train, evaluate, and monitor staff performing microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology assays.
• Verify specimen identification against physician orders and prepare specimens safely.
• Oversee research activities, compile patient data, and coordinate with pathologists for sign‑out.
• Monitor staff productivity, attendance, and scheduling accuracy.
• Initiate performance management and address ongoing performance issues.
• Identify test inconsistencies, implement corrective actions, and guide staff in problem resolution.
• Conduct and document quality‑control tests, ensuring results fall within acceptable ranges.
• Advise technologists and healthcare providers on proper specimen collection methods.
• Maintain internal controls, ensure compliance with university policies, and train employees on these controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Certification in the relevant specialty.
• Minimum three years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of business and management principles, ability to set departmental goals, and experience leading and developing staff.
