Supervising Attorney (Immigration Law)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Dallas is seeking a Supervising Attorney to lead its immigration legal team serving detained and released unaccompanied children. This senior attorney will provide direct representation, oversee case strategy, and ensure high‑quality legal services across immigration court, USCIS, and state courts.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise attorneys, legal assistants and DOJ‑accredited representatives handling unaccompanied child cases.
• Conduct client intakes, identify appropriate relief (SIJS, asylum, cancellation of removal, VAWA, U‑visa, T‑visa) and represent children before USCIS and immigration courts.
• Initiate and manage state‑court proceedings for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and related removal defenses.
• Provide legal trainings and technical assistance to in‑house staff, pro‑bono counsel, ORR facility personnel and community partners.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary IRC teams to coordinate referrals and comprehensive services for child clients.
• Ensure accurate data collection, management and reporting in line with IRC policies.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with several years of immigration law experience, preferably representing asylum seekers, youth and unaccompanied minors.
• Demonstrated legal judgment, strong ethics and ability to work independently while fostering collaboration.
• Passion for protecting vulnerable children and commitment to the IRC mission.

Required skills

• Immigration law expertise, including asylum, SIJS, VAWA, U‑visa and T‑visa.
• Experience litigating before immigration courts, USCIS and state courts.
• Legal training and technical assistance delivery.
• Data management and reporting compliance.
